GGAPP held its 2nd Governance, Ethics & Compliance Officers' Summit titled "Creating a Legacy of Good Governance" on June 7-8, 2018 at the Taal Vista Hotel, Tagaytay City, Philippines. The activity brought together professionals working in governance, ethics, compliance and other related fields in order to assess and evaluate the state of the GEC profession in terms of challenges, prospects and areas for improvement. The group then developed plans for promoting the sound and effective practice of the GEC profession and facilitating and promoting networking and further collaborative work among and between GEC professionals. During the learning sessions, discussions on Whistleblowing Programs & Mechanisms were led by Atty. Marlon R. Marquez of Marsh Philippines, Atty. Jocelyn C. Villar-Altamira and Atty. Lester Bernardo, Jr. of MERALCO, and Atty. Elmer D. Nitura of Smart Communications. Mr. Robert Bascon, Jr. of the Institute of Corporate Directors discussed Bridging the Gap: Top PLCs and Low-Scorers, and Atty. Rosario Carmela B. Gonzales-Austria of the Securities and Exchange Commission discussed Regulatory Outlook: What's Next? Mr. Alvin Dave M Pusing of Isla Lipana & Co. (PwC Philippines) shared the results of the Global Economic Crime and Fraud Survey.
GGAPP held a Governance, Ethics & Compliance (GEC) Academy: Concept & Education Module Development Workshop on May 18, 2018 at the Pasig Room, the Lighthouse, MERALCO Compound, Pasig City, Philippines. The whole-day activity was designed to "train-the-trainers" and establish standard education modules for GGAPP's upcoming GEC Academy. The workshop was facilitated by GGAPP's Education Committee, led by the Chairman of the Board, Atty. Vincent Edward R. Festin and Vice Chairman of the Education Committee, Mr. Alvin Dave M. Pusing. Immediately following the workshop was GGAPP's regular monthly meeting which was hosted by MERALCO. Past President and Trustee, Atty. Jocelyn C. Villar-Altamira discussed Liabilities of the Board during the Knowledge Sharing Session of the meeting.
On May 10, 2018, GGAPP, in partnership with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) Corporate Governance Committee, conducted a governance training program at the PCCI Secretariat Office in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig. Representing GGAPP were Past President and Trustee, Atty. Jocelyn C. Villar-Altamira, External Vice President, Atty. George T. Hipolito, and Senior Advisor, Atty. Elmer D. Nitura. Atty. Altamira spoke on corporate governance and board matters, while Atty. Hipolito shared his knowledge on data privacy. Also present were PCCI Honorary Chairman, Mr. Edgardo G. Lacson and Ms. Donna Brazas Angulo of the PCCI Corporate Governance Committee.
GGAPP held a regular meeting on April 19, 2018 at OneE-Com Center, Harbor Drive, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City. Dr. Rolando R. Lansigan, Chief of the Compliance and Monitoring Division, National Privacy Commission, led the Knowledge Sharing Session of the meeting. The meeting was hosted by SM Investments Corporation.
On April 2, 2018, the newly elected trustees and officers of GGAPP were inducted into office by SEC Chairperson Teresita J. Herbosa. Before the oath taking, the group discussed with the Chairperson several programs to further assist the development of good governance and compliance practices in the Philippines. Also present were Assistant Director Rosario Carmela B. Gonzales-Austria and Ms. Karen G. Arias-Rocha of the Corporate Governance and Finance Department, SEC.
GGAPP held a regular meeting on March 15, 2018 at the Town Hall, Voyager Innovations, Inc., 7/F The Launchpad, TV5 Building, Sheridan Street, Madaluyong City, Philippines. The meeting was hosted by Philex Mining Corp. and Voyager Innovations, Inc. Special guest, Atty. Rosario Carmela B. Gonzales-Austria, Assistant Director, Corporate Governance Division, Securities and Exchange Commission discussed the Integrated Annual Corporate Governance Report (I-ACGR) during the Knowledge Sharing Session of the meeting.
On March 15, 2018, GGAPP, in partnership with the PCCI Corporate Governance Committee, held its first exclusive governance training of the year for Phoenix Petroleum Philippines, Inc. in Davao City. Representing GGAPP was Chairman of the Board, Atty. Vincent Edward R. Festin and Vice Chairman of the Education Committee, Mr. Alvin Dave M. Pusing.
On March 13, 2018, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and GGAPP entered into a memorandum of agreement to jointly develop, organize, implement and conduct training programs on corporate governance to promote ethical business and professional conduct among the PCCI member SMEs. PCCI was represented by its President, Ms. Ma. Alegria "Bing" Sibal-Limjoco, Honorary Chairman, Mr. Edgardo G. Lacson, Mr. Ryan Patrick Evangelista, and Ms. Donna Brazas Angulo. GGAPP was represented by its President, Mr. Reginald H. Tiu, Past President and Trustee, Atty. Jocelyn C. Villar-Altamira, Vice Chairman, Atty. Marlon R. Marquez, Internal Vice President, Atty. Guadalupe Lyn Vergel De Dios, External Vice President, Atty. George T. Hipolito, Internal Auditor, Ms. Grace Aries, and Senior Advisor, Atty. Elmer D. Nitura.
GGAPP, in partnership with the Ateneo de Manila University Graduate School of Business held a data privacy seminar titled "Beyond the Rules: Data Privacy in Practice" last February 9, 2018 at the Amphitheater, Ateneo Professional Schools in Makati City, Philippines. GGAPP invited Deputy Privacy Commissioner Ivy D. Patdu of the National Privacy Commission and Atty. Maria Cecilia Soria, a data privacy lawyer and consultant, to give their insights on matters relating to the Data Privacy Act of 2012.
